Community Centre Revitalization Boosted by $3.5 Million from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program
Brussels, ON – On Saturday November 16, 2024 Provincial representative, Lisa Thompson MPP, Huron-Bruce, will give remarks at the Brussels Morris and Grey Community Centre to celebrate the grand opening of the Centre. The funding has enabled Huron East to build an addition that includes modern dressing rooms, upgraded washrooms, a new lobby, a fitness gym, and a new viewing area, enhancing our community's recreational and sporting facilities.
Under the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the Province of Ontario funded $1,595,840 and the Government of Canada funded $1,915,200 towards the $8.4 M project. Additional funding included $1,889,700 from the Municipality of Huron East, $469,900 from the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry, and over $2.5 M in donations through a successful community fundraising campaign.
"The Brussels, Morris & Grey Community Centre will offer people from the Municipality of Huron-East and the surrounding area programming that promotes physical activity and builds a sense of community. Investments in projects like this contribute to the well-being of our communities across the county and the people who live there," said the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.
The revitalization of our space marks a pivotal moment for our community. "I am very proud of the sizeable investment our government has made that ultimately enabled the community to renovate and modernize the community centre in Brussels. Thank you to everyone involved who embraced a vision and made it a reality," said Lisa Thompson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Huron-Bruce. With these new amenities, we are committed to providing excellent service and an inviting environment for athletes, families, and spectators alike. The addition not only supports our existing programs but also opens doors for new activities, ensuring that our community remains a vibrant hub for recreation and sport.
"We are incredibly grateful for the support from Provincial and Federal government, which has allowed us to realize this vision," Mayor Bernie MacLellan. "This project reflects our dedication to enhancing the quality of life in our community, making recreational activities more accessible and enjoyable for everyone."
The new facilities are set to officially open on November 16, 2024, and we invite community members to join us for a grand unveiling ceremony. This expansion represents more than just physical improvements; it symbolizes our collective commitment to fostering a healthy, active community.
