A Code of Conduct for Council was adopted in 2019 and applies to all members of the Municipality of Huron East Council, Committees and Local Boards.
Aird & Berlis LLP has been appointed as the Integrity Commissioner.
The Code of Conduct serves as a reference guide on ethical behaviour when members are acting in their official capacity, and supplements legislative standards and parameters within which members are obligated to conduct themselves.
Making a Complaint
Anyone can make a complaint by following the proper procedure outlined in Appendix B of the Code of Conduct. The below outlines the complaint procedure:
- Complaints can be made by filing a sworn/affirmed affidavit directly with the Municipal Clerk or Integrity Commissioner.
- When a complaint is filed with the Clerk, the Clerk will forward the complaint to the attention of the Integrity Commissioner, without added comment, as soon as possible.
- A complaint shall not be made available to the public except as may be required under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) or as completed by Order of Court.

A Code of Conduct for Citizen Appointments for all Huron East Boards, Committees, and Trusts has also been implemented. As part of the policy all citizen appointments made will be required to adhere and acknowledge the policy.

The Municipality of Huron East has appointed Aird & Berlis LLP as the Closed Meeting Investigator and Ombudsman.
The Closed Meeting Investigator receives and investigates reports about closed meetings.
The Ombudsman receives and investigates any decision or recommendation made, or act done, or omitted in the course of the administration of the Municipality and its local boards.

The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act requires that any member of Council has a direct or indirect interest in a matter before Council, in which they are present, to file a written statement of the interest and its general nature with the Clerk, which is to be publicly available.

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) gives you the right to ask for access to municipal government information. MFIPPA also protects the privacy of personal information and gives you the right to request your own personal information that is held by the Municipality.
The Municipality makes every effort to provide appropriate access to our records, but in some cases we cannot give access to certain records or parts of them because MFIPPA includes some limited protections for information holdings.
