The Municipality of Huron East consists of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and nine (9) Councillors representing the five (5) wards of Brussels, Grey, McKillop, Seaforth & Tuckersmith. The citizens of the Municipality elect the Members of Council for a four-year term of office. Having both legislative and executive responsibilities, Council deals with matters that require policy direction, by-laws or by-law amendments and responses or actions to pertinent issues.
Council follows the rules and guidelines of the Procedural By-law. The By-law covers matters such as delegation requests, and agenda format.

Mayor MacLellan was re-elected as Mayor of Huron East during the 2022 Municipal Elections. Mayor MacLellan has previously served as Mayor of Huron East for the past 3 Terms and prior he was a Councillor with the former Town of Tuckersmith, Deputy Mayor for Huron East and Warden of Huron County. As Mayor, Mayor MacLellan serves as a County of Huron Councillor. Alvin McLellan, Deputy Mayor |
The Deputy Mayor is appointed by Council at the Inaugural Meeting, which was held on November 15, 2022. Deputy Mayor McLellan was elected to the position of Councillor - Grey Ward in the 2022 Municipal Election. Deputy Mayor McLellan has been a Huron East Councillor since 2001. Previously he served as Councillor and Deputy Reeve with the Former Grey Township. As Deputy Mayor he will now serve as a Councillor the County of Huron. Deputy Mayor McLellan has been appointed to the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (along with the Maitland Source Protection Authority Board), Administration Committee, Mount Pleasant Cemetery Board, Ethel Minor Ball Committee and is a Representative to the Bluewater Recycling Association Deputy Mayor McLellan can be reached via phone at 519-527-0160 ext. 45 |

Councillor Morrison was acclaimed to this position in the 2022 Municipal Election. Although this is the first full Term as a Council member, Councillor Morrison was appointed to fill a vacancy of Council during the 2018-2022 Term in January 2022. The Huron East Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with a few exceptions where they only meeting once a month, as indicated on the 2024 Schedule. Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers located in Huron East Town Hall starting at 6:00 p.m.

Individuals and groups wishing to appear as a delegation before Council must complete a Council Delegation Request Form. This Request Form, and any materials to be circulated to Council, must be received by the Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Wednesday preceding the Council meeting. The Request must be delivered by email, fax or in person. |
