The Municipality of Huron East is committed to ensuring that people of all ages and abilities are able to access our services and programs barrier-free.
Under the Accessibilty for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Huron East is required to plan and implement a multi-year accessibility plan. Huron East is a member of the Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee and has adopted Huron County's Accessibility Plan.
Huron East, upon request, will provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports for persons with disabilities. It will consult with the person making the request in determining the suitability of an accessible format or communication support. The Province of Ontario enacted the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) on June 13, 2005. The AODA focuses on improving Accessibility in areas such as buildings, public spaces, employment, customer service, communications and transportation. The AODA includes:
The Ministry of Community and Social Services is currently developing standards for the areas identified in the AODA. The proposed standards are intended to make it possible for persons with disabilities to participate fully in the social and economic life of our community and throughout the province. |
